We would like to welcome our newest staff member Chrystiann Lavarini, Ph.D
Chrystiann is now our Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist.
Chrystiann Lavarini is a geomorphologist who has investigated rivers and landscapes since his B.Sc. and M.Sc. (in Brazil), through to his Ph.D. at the University of Edinburgh. His research has coupled field, lab, and modelling techniques to answer questions on sediment transport, river dynamics, landscape evolution and soil geomorphology in France, Brazil, and UK. After his Ph.D., Chrystiann was employed as an environmental consultant by Golder Associates Inc. At Golder, besides delivering, managing, and writing reports for stakeholders, he assessed the riverine impacts of one of the largest tailings dam breaches in history (Mariana dam disaster, in 2015). At cbec, Chrystiann is one of our geomorphologists and a member of the design team. His role includes undertaking geomorphic assessments, construction site supervision and managing projects, as well as being involved throughout the design process. He has published several journal papers, book chapters, and attended international conferences in geomorphology. He is also multilingual, and an advanced user of Python, ArcGIS, and QGIS.
