Fiona Thompson PhD

Fluvial Geomorphologist

Dr Fiona Thompson gained her PhD from the University of Plymouth, investigating the implications of climate change on river morphology, ecology and management. Through this research, Fiona gained an in-depth knowledge of geomorphic processes, channel adjustment and the links between geomorphology and river ecology with particular reference to the freshwater pearl mussel. This was combined with the development of statistics for data analysis and a range of field surveying and GIS skills.

Prior to joining cbec in 2018, Fiona worked for the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), which has given her a comprehensive knowledge of the regulation and management of Scottish rivers, including knowledge of CAR licensing for engineering works and river restoration.
